Spring in Snohomish, WA

I have always looked forward to the spring season here in the northwest. I believe that part of the anticipation I feel for the season has a lot to do with the drop-dead gorgeous dogwood trees. Now, to add to the trees, throw in some hummingbirds flitting about, and include the gently flowing Snohomish River to the mix, along with the many tourists milling about in the antique shops that the city has to offer, just a few blocks away from my peaceful painting spot. The combination of my state of mind and physical sense is captured and reproduced on an awaiting canvas in the colors I stole from the atmosphere of the moment. This painting was completed on a warm May afternoon at least twenty years ago, and the amusing thing is that the same dogwood blooms reappear every year on that same spring afternoon with the rolling of each calendar year. I am satisfied and complete with the result of this painting.
